Recently I was suckered into invited to contribute a short story for an upcoming anthology project entitled Love & Monsters (at least I think that's what it's called). The progress on my story has ramped up considerably over the past week, to the point that I got some finished panels I can start flaunting around.
The idea behind the anthology is romance stories featuring monsters. Since I don't know squat about all that romance junk I had to get creative and came up with a story that kinda-sorta dances around that subject (and if, when it's done you read it and say "That's not even kinda-sorta close!" Well, go fuck yourself, it's "ART").
It's been an interesting process. For starters, I've been using a
Brush Pen on this one instead of just the
Regular Pens. I really like the look it gives even though I feel like I have zero fucking control. Medium line? Shit barely shows up. Thin line? SPLERCH, hope you like that big ass goop on the page.
The other
pain in the dick unique challenge has been the page layout. I had something very specific in mind for how I want the pages to look and the story to flow (meaning, if this thing doesn't start out on an even numbered page in the actual printed book, it's all shot to shit. To me at least, nobody else would notice). However, it didn't jive with the plot I originally laid out. So, since this isn't exactly Rocket Surgery I just dropped some things and merged some other things. It actually makes for a much better, concise story. (See, I'm already applying the lessons I learned from my
Super Haters stint!)
I'm not going to tell the whole story right now, otherwise why the hell am I spending all this time drawing this crap?!
I'll just say this; it's good. They might as well start engraving my Eisner Award now.
